Greater Goods

Supplying a range of Fair Trade incense in a variety of fragrances, Greater Goods’ incense products and sachets, together with hand carved wooden incense holders, are made by the Mother's Commerce Company in Puducherry, India (MCC). This is a small privately owned company set up nearly 40 years ago, specifically to counter unemployment among local women. The company now employs around 125 women, who have good jobs, are well paid and have a pleasant work environment with decent working hours. They have paid holidays, medical insurance, access to interest free short-term credit and a company-sponsored savings scheme.  

To further maximize the  positive impact, all the work is done in India. The products come to us here in the UK, ready to be sold, and all that is done here, is to distribute them to our customers. This allows a lot of added value to be created in India. The packaging, printing and packing, all add to the number of people employed. The design, development and complex logistics of production of new products demand a high skill level, and by keeping all these activities in India, not only is the number of people employed increased but also the quality of the employment is improved.
